The ability to do whatever God commands you to do, comes with the command. God’s power is released with His word. The Bible says, “Where the word of a king is, there is power…”(Eccles 8:4). God is not just a king; He is the King of Kings. This is why, “… with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment” (Lk 1:37 AMPC). God’s word has Inherent power to actualize itself. This is why God says, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

God’s word accomplishes His pleasure. For instance, when it pleased God for Peter to walk to Jesus on the water, He spoke a word to him. “So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus” (Matt 14:29). Ordinarily, Peter could never have been able to walk on the water. That single word “come” from Jesus to Peter, was powerful enough to have enabled him to walk on the water. Similarly, you can only walk in God’s plans for you when He speaks or reveals them to you personally.

Like Peter, God has plans for you, the fulfilment of which will bring Him immense pleasure. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jer 29:11 NIV). Real prosperity in life does not come from your toiling to eke out a living. That is the world’s way, not God’s. In God’s programme, both your prosperity and your future are His to give you, and not yours to achieve in your own strength. Uzziah’s prosperity was the result of his seeking God (2Ch 26:5). True prosperity comes from God in response to seeking Him. God takes responsibility for the future and prosperity of the one who truly seeks Him. The first and most important thing in life is to seek God. Once it becomes a revelation to you that, “… it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy” (Rom 9:16), then you have made giant strides in the path of spiritual progress.

Therefore, to walk in God’s plans for you requires that you seek Him earnestly for them. God hardly, if ever, speaks to the casual enquirer, whose intention is merely to satisfy his or her curiosity. “Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jer 29:12-13). Though God wants the best for you, He will not impose His plans on you. If you call Him Father, He expects you to want His kingdom and His will on earth as it is in heaven (Matt 6:9-10). For this reason He commands: “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matt 6:33). Note that Peter indicated his interest to walk on the water, before Jesus called to do so. The privilege of seeking God is open to all. Anyone who desires, may seek God. He does not discriminate. To seek God is to exercise faith, because it demonstrates that you believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

When you truly seek God, He will respond to you by speaking to you. His promise is, “‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know’” (Jer 33:3). God longs to reveal both Himself and His plans for you through His word. This is why He invites you to call to Him, with the promise that He will answer you. God has the answers to the questions that have bothered you. Like Peter, the words God speaks to you can sustain you on the stormy waters of life, until you reach your God-ordained destination triumphantly. For there is power in God’s word. Shalom.
