We must give God quality time and attention, if we want our lives to go in the direction of His plans for us. Otherwise, our hope of a glorious destiny or future is a pipe dream. Our lives naturally conform to our dominant objects of focus, whether they are commendable or objectionable. Your life will follow the direction of whatever you give your time and sustained attention. Hence, you need to seek and focus on God, for  He says, “… I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jer 29:11-13).

When you first find out that God has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer 29:11), your response may be, “Wow, praise God.” Well, that is good if it is not your only response. This is because, in as much as God wants you to prosper and to have a great future, He will not make it happen without your cooperation. No doubt, God is all-powerful, all-knowing and ever-present. However, He has restricted Himself, as far as the earth is concerned, to doing only those things for which mankind invites Him and gives Him cooperation. We see this principle right at the beginning: Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; LET THEM have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” (Gen 1:26) (emphasis mine). Additionally, Psalms 115 verse 16 says, “The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men.”

Therefore, it is not enough to know that God has glorious plans for you. The Scripture says, “…Then YOU WILL call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. YOU WILL seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jer 29:11-13) (emphasis mine). This implies that, though God wills to prosper you and to give you a great future, the cooperation of your own will is required to make it happen. Unless we earnestly seek and find God, we will neither discover His plans for us nor be able to fulfill them, for at the centre of our discovering and fulfilling God’s plans for us, is our seeking Him with all our hearts. Everything right a man does in the sight of God begins with his seeking God Himself. To do right in the sight of God is first and foremost to seek Him. Shalom.
