Isaiah 46:3-5 says, “”Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and  have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.  To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?”  The phrase “I am he” in the scriptural text above was repeated to underscore the point that God would not be compared or counted equal with any other person or thing. Therefore, you should look to God as your only source. Only He can meet your needs adequately. There may be many channels through which God provides for you, but He alone should be your source.
There is no sensible alternative to your relying on God as your only source, for every good and perfect gift comes from Him (James 1:17). If you want to enjoy good and perfect gifts, then you will have to look to the “Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” (James 1:17). Remember that, “…he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.” (Acts 17:24 NIV). One reason why it is imperative to have this perception is that, it will drive you consistently to God in prayer, asking His help.
Communion with God, as your source, should preceed any attempt to achieve anything for Him. This is because the release of the resources we need to accomplish our assignments in life, effectively, is conditioned on our communion with God. Jesus Himself made this principle clear, when He appointed His disciples : “Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons:” (Mk 3:14-15). Note that when Jesus appointed the twelve, it was  for them to be with Him, first. Similarly, God has appointed every child of His today, to be with Him as a matter of priority. It is a universal principle.
The power required to be effective and efficient in accomplishing God’s will on earth, comes from spending adequate time in prayer. In teaching His disciples to pray Jesus said, “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.” (Matt 6:9-10). Your prayer demonstrates your acknowledgement of God’s fatherhood over you. As a father, God takes responsibility for your welfare. He is your only source, but may choose to use any human or nonhuman instrument (as was the case of Elijah at the Brook Cherith), as a channel of His provision for you. It is His prerogative as to whom He uses, when and how, to help you. However, it is your responsibility to call to Him (Jer 33:3). Man must invite God’s intervention in the affairs of the earth, if God’s will is to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
You are an invaluable part of God’s programme on earth, irrespective of your inadequacies. One of Satan’s greatest strategies is to remind you of your failings and limitations, with a view to undermining your resolve to accept and act on God’s word as your unchanging reality. He is aware that if you accept God’s estimation of you, as revealed in the Bible, his stranglehold on your life and circumstances is over. Therefore, as long as he can keep you focused on yourself, he can hinder God’s programme through you. Remember, your relationship with God is not based on your performance, but on your faith in Jesus. Therefore, arise and heed His call : “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt 11:28) ; “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Heb 4:16). There are things you can do after you have prayed,  but there is nothing you can do until you have prayed.  Shalom.
