God has called every Christian to enforce His will on earth as it is in heaven. He eagerly desires to see His kingdom permeate every sphere of human existence. Some people erroneously think that God is responsible for everything that happens on earth. However, the Bible clearly says that the will of God is good, pleasing and perfect (Rom 12:2). This makes it easy to see that many of the phenomena which some people call “acts of God” do not come from Him at all. There is no doubt that God can use any situation for His own purpose. However, it does not mean that He originated it. There are many things that happen in our society that are contrary to God’s will.

One of the reasons for the Incarnation was for God to reveal His nature to humanity through Jesus Christ. This is why the Bible says, “but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.” (Heb 1:2 NIV). Furthermore, it says that, “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven” (Heb 1:3 NIV). Everything we may know about the Father has been revealed to us in Christ Jesus.

Therefore, the life of Christ on earth, as clearly portrayed in the Bible, mirrors the attitude and the disposition of God towards the ills that have befallen humanity since the Fall. When Jesus saved the sinner,  healed the sick, delivered the captive and the oppressed, fed the hungry etc, He was revealing the Father’s nature and will. Hence, the Bible says, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38). Jesus did the will of God by destroying the works of the devil (1Jn 3:8), as He performed His ministry on earth.

Having concluded His earthly ministry among the people, He went to the cross to destroy Satan himself: “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, THAT THROUGH DEATH HE MIGHT DESTROY HIM WHO HAD THE POWER OF DEATH, THAT IS, THE DEVIL, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Heb 2:14-15) (emphasis mine).

Today, however, Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, but has delegated power and authority to us to carry on His ministry on earth (Matt 28:18-20). Hence, the responsibility of enforcing the will of God on earth devolves on us, who having been born again, are joint heirs with Christ. We are now His representatives on earth, charged with the responsibility of doing His works. Jesus says, ““Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” (Jn 14:12). What works did He do? “… the will of Him who sent Me.” (Jn 6:38).  And remember, Jesus also said, “… As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”” (Jn 20:21). If you are born again, you have been called to enforce God’s will on earth as it is in heaven. Be ever conscious of this truth. Shalom.
