Consciousness is the state of being aware of something. It is simply awareness. Therefore, God-Consciousness is the state of being constantly aware of God’s presence and His dispositions, in the daily routines of life. God’s will is for us to remain ever conscious of His abiding presence with us. This is why He says, “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” (Isa 41:10).
Whatever dominates your consciousness directs your life.
If we become fearful, it is because we have lost our consciousness of God’s presence with us. If we become dismayed, it is because we have lost our awareness of His being our God. Whenever your thinking centres around yourself and your circumstances, your consciousness of God’s presence with you diminishes considerably. This matter is so important that it makes the difference between defeat and victory in life.
Though God wants to strengthen you, though He wants to help you, and though He wants to uphold you with His righteous right hand, you will not be in a position to receive any of these things, if you lack the consciousness of God’s presence with you. This is because, “…he who comes to God must believe that He IS [present], and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Heb 11:6).
God’s presence is what He has always promised those whom He sends to carry out an assignment. To Moses He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.” (Ex 3:12). To Gideon, He said, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.” (Judges 6:16). And in each of these cases victory was the outcome, because both Moses and Gideon remained conscious of God’s presence with them. In fact, Moses at some point in his leadership cried out to God: “Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.” ( Ex 33:15). Your consciousness of God’s presence with you is indispensable to your success in His programme for your life. Shalom.
